Terrance Michael Brungardt died unexpectedly after a long illness on Monday evening, May 26, 2025. Terry was born in Wichita, Kansas on the twenty-ninth day of September in 1958 as the fourth of Alvin and Frances Brungardt’s five children. A month later, Terry’s parents transplanted themselves and their kids to Parsons, Kansas where, from November, 1958 through 1966, Francey and Al’s family flourished in the small town. During those years, Terry’s mom and dad gave him another sister and raised their older children into their teenage years. An early and avid reader, Terry studied the sports pages of the Parsons Sun newspaper and began his lifelong passion for the St. Louis Cardinals. In June of 1966, no one in his family was happier about the move to St. Louis than Terry. The summer of 1966 delivered Terry to the land of his early childhood hopes and dreams: St. Louis, Missouri, home of the baseball Cardinals.
Terry excelled in school, at The Church of the Immacolata, at Chaminade College Prep, class of 1977, and after a year at UMSL, he transferred to St. Louis University and graduated with a B.S. in Marketing in 1981. Terry built a successful career in the finance industry. He began at A.G. Edwards before his decades long contribution to Edward D. Jones. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Terry always served others as a volunteer. Beginning in college and for as many years as his health allowed, Terry coached kids baseball, basketball, and football teams. Additionally, he contributed significant time as a member of the PTA in the Brentwood public schools.
In 1987 he married Mary Beth Widmar. Together, the couple had two children. Their bond endured even after they’d chosen to go their separate ways and thereafter, nothing meant more to Terry than being Joe and Alex’s dad. His sons, daughter-in-law and his two grandchildren remained the energy inside the rhythm of his heartbeat to the very last.
Terry was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Buddy and his sister Debby and all of his cherished aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his sons Joe Brungardt (Summer Powers) of Ortonville, Michigan and Alex Brungardt (Kailyn) of St. Louis, Missouri and his grandchildren Aubrey and Finley; his sisters Barbara Ann Brungardt (John Horn) of Hillsborough, New Jersey and Francine Marie Brungardt (Paul Rothstein) of Silver Spring, Maryland, his nephew Jacob Rothstein of Longmont, Colorado; his first and beloved niece Emily McBee (David), his great-nephew Tanner (Vanessa Redford) and great-niece Zoey, all of Olathe, Kansas; cousin Vance Brungardt of Palm Springs, California; cousin, Michelle Powers, of Palm Bay, Florida and her son Garrett; his former spouse, Mary Beth Campbell (Chuck) and his mother-in-laws, Peggy Dangos (James) and Bev Garnat; his sister-in-law Karen Sue Rosenthal (Rand), nephew, Michael Gallina (Tara) great-niece Olivia, great-nephew Henry, God Son and nephew Ryan Gallina (Sophia) and great-niece Anna, all of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law Susan Mimlitz (Ted), niece Kathryn, nephew Matthew (Mary Elise) of Chicago, Illinois, nephew Thomas, niece Grace; closest friend and blood brother, Jim Carlton (Flo) of Houston, Texas.
Terry loved his family, friends and community purely and unconditionally. He emanated sincere goodwill in all of his relationships and thrived in building and maintaining loving community. His generosity of compassion towards others and pleasure in life made and will continue making ever-widening concentric circles of kindness. He will be profoundly missed by many.
