Vladimir Rubezhin, born in Shuya, Russia, on October 9, 1945, passed away on March 20, 2026, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old and died surrounded by his loving family.
Born just after the end of World War II, Vladimir’s parents, the late Lev and the late Rimma (Khaykin), soon moved the family to Gomel, Belarus, then one of the strongest remaining Jewish communities in the region. Eventually, there would be four children in the family – the late Mikhail, the late Liza, Vladimir, and the late Sima.
Music was Vladimir’s great passion, earning a degree in music and becoming the head of the music department at the university in Gomel. He mastered many instruments, including the accordion and bass, and conducted orchestras and choirs. He also loved photography, establishing his own studio to earn extra money.
In music and in life, Vladimir’s muse was his beautiful Irina, a fellow music student who stole his heart. There was nothing he appreciated more in the world than a good home cooked meal from his loving Irina. They were married for 59 years, missing their 60th anniversary by just a few months, and created a wonderful family with their daughters Yulia (Alex) Kheyfets and Marina (Dmitrey) Kuznetsov.
The family moved to America in 1989 and started a new life. Vladimir opened a clock repair business, putting his handiness to good use. He could fix anything, including the family’s first car, a used Chevy Impala. When the car broke down soon after purchasing it, Vladimir got a repair guide, diagnosed the problem, disassembled the engine, and successfully put it back together. He was very proud that the car drove for another 10 years, carrying new driver Marina and her friends around town.
He greatly missed his musical life but forever kept his mind and body busy with learning things like ChatGPT at age 80 and fixing everything in sight.
Vladimir will be greatly missed by so many friends and family, especially by his beloved wife, his loving children, his adoring grandsons, Arthur, Phillip, Erik, Andrew, and Zachary and great-granddaughters, Mila and Rosie, and his nieces, Alina and Natasha.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Sunday, March 22nd, at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery at 650 White Rd. in Chesterfield.
