Walter Farrell Moody, aged 74, departed this life peacefully on May 22, 2025, in St Louis, Missouri, surrounded by his family. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on December 13, 1950, to Bessie and Luther Moody. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara Moody and Carol Simpson.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Ruth; his children, Cassidy (Sara) Moody,
Mackenzie (Brandon) Morrison, and Delaney Moody; his sister, Janet Moody; and
eight grandchildren, including two who share his trademark red hair.
A proud Denver native and frontiersman at heart, Walter found his home in St. Louis, the Gateway to the West. He was an idealist who recognized Lafayette Square's vast potential as a perfect canvas for his boundless creativity. He spent much of his life tirelessly pursuing a better community in which to raise his family.
He dedicated his career to teaching ceramics, an outlet for his appreciation of pottery and another opportunity to share his creativity with so many. In his “spare time”, Walter was also a skilled carpenter, plumber, electrician, mechanic, botanist, and an all-around enthusiastic and dedicated problem-solver. Above all, he was a loving father, husband, brother, son, and grampa.
Walter cherished spending time in nature and the outdoors with his friends and family. His passion for camping and hiking and dedication to teaching these skills to others will be a lasting legacy, as his knowledge will be passed down through generations. He would be especially proud of his four trips to Philmont Scout Ranch with his children.

A memorial service to celebrate Walter's life will be held from 9-11 am, June 13, 2025, in the Port room at the Pavilion at Lemay, located at 305 Gregg Road, St. Louis, MO 63125.
The family would love to honor his stylish fashion by inviting you to wear a favorite graphic tee—perhaps from a vacation, club or organization, event, or sports team—if possible.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Walter’s memory to
Greater St. Louis Area Scouting or Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri—organizations that were meaningful to him through his children and grandchildren’s involvement.
