
Bill attended Chickasha Public Schools, graduating in 1947. He was active in tennis and Boy Scouts, where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Bill attended Washington University in St Louis and graduated in 1951 with a degree in business. His college activities included tennis, Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity and writing for the school newspaper “Student Life.” After college, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
Bill began his life long career in retailing in the family business, The Dixie Store. He was very active in the Chickasha Community. He was president of the Jay Cees (1956-1957), president of the Rotary Club (1962) and president of the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce (1986). He also served on the board of the Black Beaver Council of the Boy Scouts, the board of trustees of the USAO Foundation and as a Director of the First National Bank and Trust for many years. He was awarded “Boss of the Year” by the American Business Women’s Association. He was a founding member of the Soccer Association and was a soccer coach for his son’s team. He was an active member of Emanuel Synagogue in Oklahoma City, and a director for many years of the Hillel Advisory Board at OU in Norman.
Bill was married to Eleanor Bleiweiss in St. Louis on June 8, 1958 and they just celebrated their 53rd Anniversary. He is the father and father-in-law of Beverly (Rabbi Barry) Hirschman of Passaic, New Jersey, Sherri (Dr. Coleman) Spector of Chicago, Illinois, Jeff (Weng) Miller of Manila, Philippines and Beth (Oren) Chen of Chicago, Illinois. He is the grandfather of Yochevad and Etan Mayo, Devorah and Kuppie Cohen, Miriam and Aron Mandel, Leah and Baruch Ebstein, Sholom Hirschman, Sara Hirschman, Shaina Hirschman, Malki Hirschman, Hadassa Hirschman, Temima Hirschman, Shifra Hirschman, Adam Spector, Ryan Spector, Sarah Miller, Avi Chen and Beni Chen. He is the great-grandfather of nine.
Interment will be at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Road in Chesterfield, Missouri at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 16.
