Alcide "Al" Romero Jr.

ST. MARTINVILLE – Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Alcide “Al” Romero, Jr., age 74, at 11:00 am Monday, August 23, 2010 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Msgr. Douglas Courville will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of St. Martinville on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Monday from 8:00 am until services.

A native of New Orleans and resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Romero passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at New Iberia Manor South Nursing Home.

Al, as he was known by family and friends, was a mechanic and service station attendant, and previously worked at Dave’s in St. Martinville. He loved riding his bike, visiting with family and friends, and going to the casino.

Al was the type of person to never meet a stranger. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his children, Brent James Romero of Lafayette, Keith Anthony Romero of St. Martinville, Rebecca Ann Turner and husband Joseph “Bozo” Turner of Coteau, and Leslie Marie Romero of St. Martinville; six grandchildren, Grant and Nicholas Robichaux, Joshua and Logan Turner, and Emily and Kaitlyn Bonvillian; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jansen Robichaux; and a brother and two sisters, Wallace Romero of Cade, Lee Hutchinson of Duson and Edna Solomon of Texas City, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Bienvenu Romero; parents, Alcide Romero, Sr. and Clodia Touchet Romero; a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Emmer; and numerous brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to assist with expenses.
