It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald R. Flassing, who died on February 28, 2026, at the age of 82.
Donald was born on March 30, 1943, in Warrensburg, Missouri, to Helen and Jessie Flassing. He carried with him throughout his life the values of his upbringing—strength, resilience, and a deep sense of loyalty to those he loved.
Known to many as Don, he grew up with a passion for sports and a natural athletic ability. He played baseball, basketball, and football, excelling in each. Don was a standout athlete at Liberty High School, where he starred on the basketball team and played football as a wide receiver, earning the respect of teammates and competitors alike.
He continued his football career at William Jewell College, where he graduated and further distinguished himself as a talented athlete. His dedication and skill led him to the professional level, where he went on to play with the Minnesota Vikings—an accomplishment that reflected both his hard work and his love of the game.
Don began his professional career at Dun & Bradstreet and went on to spend many successful years in the medical equipment financing industry. He served as President of the medical division for Copelco, where he demonstrated strong leadership and vision. He later continued his career with De Lage Landen, an arm of Rabo Bank, where he concluded his professional journey overseeing two large medical equipment leasing companies on a global scale. His work left a lasting impact in his field and reflected his dedication, intelligence, and leadership.
Don was especially proud of his three sons: Brett, of Tampa, a graduate of Rowan University in software engineering; Jason, of Greenville, SC, a graduate of Emory University as physician assistant; and David, of Chicago, a graduate of Harvard Law School a lawyer. His love for his family was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments. He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, who brought him great joy.
Donald lived a long and meaningful life, marked by quiet wisdom and a steady presence and wonderful humor that brought comfort and laughter to those around him. He will be remembered for his character, his life experiences, and the way he connected with others through kindness and sincerity.
A devoted husband, Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Julie, with whom he shared 35 years of partnership, love, and cherished memories. He is also survived by his sons, his seven grandchildren, his sister Marge, and his nephew Brian.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral will be held. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date in St. Pete Beach, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember him.
Donald’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him.
“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
