

Gloria Simonzi Eichles, 82, died on June 21 at St. Anthony's hospital in St. Petersburg ,Florida. She was born in Putnam, CT on July 24, 1934, the daughter of Edward and Anita (Desrosier) Brzuch. After graduating from Putnam Catholic Academy she received her licensed practical nursing degree at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT. She married John Francis Simonzi Jr. of Putnam, CT and together they raised four children. She went on to earn an R.N. at St Petersburg Junior College in St.Petersburg FL. and a Bachelors degree from St.Leo College where she graduated suma cum laude with a major in psychology and sociology. She later received enterostomal therapy training at the M.D. Anderson Hospital at the University of Texas Cancer Center and went on to develop her own private business of ostomy care in St. Petersburg FL. She was a member of the United Ostomy Association and a member of the IAET. She was a guest speaker at various clinical conferences around the world. She later remarried Sherman Eichles and they lived together in St. Petersburg , FL until his death in 2004. Gloria was very creative and she enjoyed painting, singing, knitting and sewing and many other crafts and arts. She is survived by her sister, Joan Gainer and her husband Richard. She also is survived by her four children, Nina Shorey, Donna Sewall, Michael Simonzi and Mark Simonzi, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at the Westminster Palms in St. Petersburg on Tuesday, July 11 at 11am, and later in the summer there will be a private service in Maine.
