Jamie Nell McDaniel Clemons of Tierra Verde, FL, passed away unexpectedly on December 16, 2019. She was born on November 29, 1966 in Birmingham, AL to Patricia and James McDaniel. Jamie was married to Brent Clemons for the past 10 years.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Jamie spent her childhood and her young adult life in Homewood, Alabama. She attended elementary and middle school in Homewood before graduating from Shades Valley High School. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Education and subsequently earned her master’s degree in Learning Disabilities from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She was a high school English and Literature teacher for many years, having taught in Birmingham, AL and Fort Myers, FL before traveling to Cairo, Egypt, and then to Harare, Zimbabwe, teaching for International Schools. She returned to Florida and taught high school in St. Petersburg, FL, before joining her husband, Brent, as entrepreneurs in their own business. They lived the last several years in Tierra Verde. At the time of her death, she had recently completed training and received multiple certifications in order to work as a director in the assisted living facility environment. She was truly looking forward to this new employment adventure. She was an avid reader, loving anything written by Shakespeare, as well as the classics. She loved traveling and enjoyed snow skiing trips in the winter. At other times, she could be found riding her bicycle around the beautiful trails near her home. She loved home decorating, sewing, scrapbooking, visiting local museums and of course, the beach.
Jamie was predeceased by her parents, Patricia and James. She is survived by her husband, Brent Clemons and his children, Jackie and Chase Clemons. As the youngest of five children, she is also survived by her siblings Melinda Leavelle (Norris); Timothy McDaniel (Carmen); Terrance McDaniel (Marika); and Susan Cerreta (Tony). Additionally, she was loved, adored and will be truly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews on both the McDaniel’s and Clemons’ side of the family. She was so generous and thoughtful to those who she loved, and her vivacious personality was known to all. She lit up the room when she entered and could be found smiling and laughing with anyone who shared her enthusiasm. Her English Springer Spaniels, Bailey and Mollie, were her world and will truly be lost without her. Her physical presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her. One of her favorite authors, John Irving, wrote, “Into Paradise May the Angels Lead You”. This is our wish for Jamie.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 2pm A Gathering of Family and Friends will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a random act of kindness to those who may need it during this holiday season.
