Lois was born Lois Adele Salsbury on December 5, 1923. Lois is the second oldest of seven siblings, six girls and one boy. All of Lois’s siblings predeceased her, with the exception of her sister Bernice, who is currently 96 years old.
Lois was born in 1923 in Hartford, Connecticut. She and her family moved around during her formative years, as her father was an architect and his projects took him and his family to different states. Lois and her family lived in Connecticut, Florida, Texas, and Maryland. Lois’s family moved to Maryland when she was 13 years old.
Lois married Robert Campbell on Valentine’s Day in 1947. Robert served in World War II, returning in the Fall of 1945. Lois worked as a Red Cross volunteer for several years at her local hospital. She held numerous positions throughout her life, including working for doctors and the school system. She loved people. She made many good friends over the years. She retired from working at age 65 and became very involved in various Bible studies, Women’s Aglow, as her life centered in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. With her Bible study group she traveled to Israel, Egypt and Greece in her late 60’s.
She loved her family, her extended family and her friends. She was a “giver” to her family all of her life. Her kindness, love, joy and giving touched her family and everyone who knew her. Lois loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and loved spending time with them. She traveled to Tennessee often to visit them. She also traveled to Illinois, Virginia, Florida and Wisconsin to visit Bryan, Leslie and her great grandchildren, and to Tennessee and Florida to spend time with her granddaughter Elisabeth. In 2012 she took her yearly trip to visit family in Florida and never left. She and her family enjoyed many wonderful times together over the past 11 ½ years.
In 2014 Lois was given a little dog, Sophie, adopted from Pet Pals in St. Petersburg, Florida. Her granddaughter, Elisabeth, moved in with her in 2018 with her dog, K.D. Lois loved every minute as they took turns on her lap. Lois and Elisabeth shared many wonderful times as “roommates.”
In addition to Lois’s sister, Bernice, she is survived by her daughter, Carolyn, her son-in-law, Jeff, her grandchildren, Bryan (Leslie) and Elisabeth, and five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, and the like. She loved them all and was loved by them all.
Lois was a unique, fun and loving person. Her love and her joy in giving and her sense of humor were a blessing and Lois will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation for Lois will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Beach Memorial Chapel, 301 Corey Avenue, St. Pete Beach, Florida 33706.
