Martin was the beloved husband of Frances (Di Napoli) Van Strien, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. He was a devoted father to Vanecia Cassidy and her husband Sean Cassidy, and to Martin Van Strien, Jr. His legacy lives on in his cherished grandchildren: Penelope Van Strien, William Van Strien, Emmalee Cassidy, Alexandria Cassidy, and Rowan Cassidy. Martin also leaves behind his sister, Joan Irving, along with numerous aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews who were all touched by his kindness and generosity. He is also survived by his loyal canine companion, Sadie.
Martin was born March 26, 1947 in Passaic, New Jersey and was the son of the late John and Helen Van Strien. A proud Vietnam veteran, he served his country with honor and dignity. After his service, he dedicated his career to the U.S. Postal Service and also found joy and fulfillment as a skilled bicycle mechanic. He was known for his strong work ethic, warm smile, and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Martin’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of Martin’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Martin’s honor to a veteran’s organization of your choice.
