He was born on October 14, 1939, to Nicholas and Antoinette Fasano in Brooklyn, NY. He has lived almost his entire life in NY, in Brooklyn and in Long Island, finally moving to St. Pete Beach, Florida, where he has lived full time for the last 9 years after being a snowbird for close to 25 years.
Peter is survived by his only sibling: Annette. He will be reunited with his mother and father. Peter leaves behind his loving and loyal wife, Lenora Fasano, happily married for 61 years, who cared for him at home until his passing. Together they built a wonderful life, providing unconditional love, support and guidance, leaving behind three children and their families: Deborah and Dominick DiCosimo of Belleair Beach, FL; Nicholas C. Fasano of Bayport, NY; and Peter and Maria Fasano of Wantagh, NY. His grandchildren are Anthony, Peter and Dominick DiCosimo; Leanna and Julia Fasano; Peter, Hunter and Alex Fasano; and his great-grandchild Thomas Fasano.
Peter had a remarkable 40 year career with Citibank, starting from the ground level as a teller trainee and growing to Senior Vice President of branch leadership. Over Peter’s 40 years at Citibank, he mentored 100’s of colleagues and was highly respected in the industry. Peter represented the Brooklyn Communities that he grew up in and led his division with great pride. As a leader of Citibank, Peter dedicated much of his time supporting the improvement of local Brooklyn communities, like the one he grew up in. Peter was able to lead numerous fundraising efforts to support charities that improved Brooklyn neighborhoods and was so honored to be selected as “Man of the Year” by the Flatbush Boys’ Club in 1987. Peter’s influence in banking can still be felt today as he has helped many people grow in the industry and is a true example that hard work pays off.
Peter will be remembered most for the love and pride he had for his family. There was nothing more he loved than spending time with his children, and especially, his grandchildren. He has touched each one of their lives so deeply with his unconditional love, his spirit, his smile, his laughter and his unmatched generosity. His intention to leave each grandchild with a college fund is a legacy he dreamed of and fulfilled. He wanted each of his eight grandchildren to have the opportunity to achieve the highest level of education possible. With that as a goal, he started college funds for each grandchild when they were born and continued to contribute to it for every birthday, Christmas and momentous life event. This was one of his biggest accomplishments of which he was most proud.
Vibrant, joyful, happy and exuberant are a few of the words that can be used to describe this incredible man. His larger-than-life personality gave Peter the ability to touch everyone’s heart. He made every single person he spoke with feel special, listened to and cared for. His joyful smile, reminiscence on fond memories and his love and pride of his family made everyone adore him. He is one of the most generous men in spirit, always welcoming people into his home and his life. When he lived in Valley Stream his home was constantly filled with the neighborhood children and many people have fond memories of spending time in his home and being treated like family. Peter has amassed wonderful friends from around the country, of whom he would consider to be his family.
He had many interests throughout his life which included spending time with family and friends, bowling was a huge part of his young adult life, followed by about 30 years of paddleball playing, even in single digit temperatures. He always loved playing cards, whether it was pinochle, May-I, rummy or poker and one of his most favorite pastimes was going to the casinos and the dog tracks. SilverPoint Beach Club became a home away from home for him in his later years. Throughout his life, Peter was an avid Yankee fan. He loved talking about baseball to anyone who would listen. He and Lenora would attend spring training games in an attempt to get autographs from every player. Peter extended his love and joy of baseball to his grandchildren and it was something they loved to do together. Peter enjoyed watching James Bond and John Wayne, Cowboy movies and he loved going to the theaters to see the newest movies. He loved Frank Sinatra music and had seen him perform many times.
Peter lived his life with zest, enthusiasm and kindness. Always the ultimate gentleman. His “Heart of Gold” was easily seen by anyone who has ever met him. He has touched so many people’s lives and hearts. He leaves behind a lasting impression on so many people and will never be forgotten. He will be missed more than words can express. He will live on forever in our hearts and in our memories. May he rest in peace with the Lord. Heaven has indeed gained an angel!
