I was Dr. Monsanto's assistant at U of H in the mid-90's. He was a fascinating, very kind-hearted man. Occasionally, I drove him to a gig after work and listened to him sing and play the keyboard. He was truly talented. Thank you, Dr. Monsanto, for the opportunity to work for you.

To my beautiful brother from Edwin Monsanto father Adolfo Monsanto father to Carlos who was a inspiration in every way to me. What little? I got to know him and speak with him. Made me more grateful of being his brother. God bless you. Carlos will always love you. Carmen to my beautiful sister Jose, my beautiful brother Eniyo my beautiful brother My heart will always find comfort the times that I was able to spend with you as a young child and being from his third wife of Dr. Adolfo Monsanto, my mom, Dolores Monte Santo. Rosita as my aunt for my father was cousins with her, she was always the most sweet person to me and to my brothers with her a great heart and love that she had for all of us and to have her in all of you as my family.

Dr.  Monsanto was such an energetic, enthusiastic professor with a humorous and joyful heart!  He was my Spanish Professor when I attended the University of Houston. His class was always a delight. He made class entertaining and enjoyable. Most of the time, when class was dismissed, several of us would stay after class just to talk to him.  I loved speaking to him about Guatemala!  He was indeed a dedicated professor.  His eyes always lit up when he told stories.   You are surely missed profe! Que esté en paz.

Bonnie and family.This is Beth Angell Griffin from Osage and now Marshalltown, Iowa.  For some unknown reason I googled Carlos's name last night and read the sad news..My heart goes out to you and your family.I have contacted my sister, Andrea, and she will talk to Dad. Carlos was such a spark of sunshine in our lives and we have so many happy memories of our times together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Carlos was a warm, compassionate and driven man. A consummate intellectual, poet and musician; cared as much about his students as he did the arts. He will be missed by all.

Very few professors will grab you by the hand and walk you in an administration building to enroll in school. Dr. Carlos was that person, he was always willing to share and help anyone. I feel privlaged to have known him and I will miss his great spirit. Thank you for shinning Dr. Monsanto!

My sympathies are extended to your family and friends on the loss of this great man. I remember how Dr. Monsanto would keep our city bus riders to UH entranced with his wonderful stories and knowledge in the '70's; thank you for sharing him with us.

Dr. Monsanto's vibrant teaching enriched Spanish literature classes and the Latin cultural experience at home and abroad.  I am privileged to have been one of his students during the UH study abroad program in Puebla, Mexico in 1980.   La paz sea con usted, profesor.

I had the privilege of studying in Spain with Dr. Monsanto many years ago.  He inspired me to complete my degree and continue traveling to Spain almost yearly since 1981.

Dr. Monsanto was a creative, engaging teacher who brought  vim, vigor, and enthusiasm to  all of his classes.  And he loved  to play those Marimbas too!  He lived life to the fullest and leaves a wonderful legacy of students  who possess a better  understanding of Latin culture because of his work.  Sincere condolences to  his family and colleagues at UH.
