David Falk

He was born to the late Louis F. Falk Sr and Bertha K. Falk on January 20, 1951, in Scranton, PA. Dave graduated from Scranton Central High School and went on to achieve a B.A. in psychology from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

Dave began a 30+ year YMCA career as a lifeguard and camp counselor at Scranton YMCA Camp Spruks. He also served as Camp Director at Camp Wa-Wa-Segowea for the Dutchess County (NY) YMCA, and Executive Director for YMCA Camp Shikellimy for the Harrisburg (PA) YMCA. Dave then moved to Fort Worth, TX where he served as Executive Director for the Westside YMCA. He returned to the northeast and was the Executive Director at the Wallingford CT YMCA. Dave next served as the Executive Director of the Southwest Y in Houston TX before joining the Association staff and completing his career as the Associate Vice President-Operations where he mentored branch staff, helped branches strengthen their operations, and worked on numerous facility projects.

In addition to his committed service to the YMCA, Dave had passion for his relationships with family and close friends, fishing, and being Mr. Fix-it for both people and things. He loved The Beatles, The Beach Boys and all things Texas, and was a longtime supporter of the YMCA of the Dominican Republic, especially the Christmas Eve dinner in Don Gregorio.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Brendia who provided heroic care for him during his 4 1/2 year bout with cancer, his brother Louis and sister-in-law Mary of Old Lyme, CT, two adoring nephews and their families - Jeff, Jennifer, Wyatt and Darien of Cape Cod MA, and Brian, Tania, Noah, and Emma of Chesapeake, VA.

The family sends special thanks to loyal friends Jim and Caroline Nudelman, Ken Harris, Ann Gibson and the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

A memorial service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held at 7 pm on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Earthman Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood in Stafford, TX.
