She was born in Houston in 1933 attending Immaculate Conception School, St. Agnes Academy and the University of St Thomas, where she met her future husband, John Hanson. They were married 63 years and raised their children, Eric, Leah, Chris, Julie and Gena. She worked for 40 years at National Tile and Terrazzo and when the children were grown they moved to Galveston, and then Pearland. John and JoAnn traveled and took several cruises and made regular trips to the casino. They remained married until his death in 2017.
