
Mrs. Sparks was born February 20, 1942 in Kilgore, Texas to Luther and Mary Weast. She resided in the greater Houston area since 1988.
In addition to being a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Sparks had a long and distinguished career as a practicing pharmacist and pharmacy educator. She served as both a hospital and community pharmacist in Tulsa, Okla. In 1988 she and her husband, L. David Sparks, moved to the Houston area to join PCCA, the nation's leading support organization for specialty compounding pharmacies. She served as PCCA's Associate Director of Training, with her husband serving as a Pharmacy Consultant, and later President/CEO of the organization. Mrs. Sparks served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the University of Houston College of Pharmacy as well as a Pharmacist Preceptor for the State of Texas.
Mrs. Sparks's passion and talent for pharmacy education earned her many distinctions in the profession. She was a Fellow of the American College of Apothecaries and of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP). In 1997, she was awarded the PCCA Eagle, the company's highest honor. In 2006, IACP named its new headquarters the Kay Sparks Building in honor of her contributions to compounding pharmacy. And in 2007, PCCA renamed its Employee of the Year award in her honor.
Mrs. Sparks is survived by her husband, L. David Sparks, son Bryan Sparks, daughter-in-law Mollie Sparks, grandchildren, Aaron and Sarah Sparks, and numerous other in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
