Robert Joseph “Bob” Hurley. Born May 21 1932, he peacefully went to be with his Lord on August 12 2014. Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, born and raised in Chicago, a devout Catholic educated in Franciscan, Benedictine and Jesuit institutions through law school. Served in the US Army after the Korean War, returned home to meet and marry his beloved wife Emily Costello. They were to celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary next month. He was father to six children and provided all with a college education. He started at Shell Oil as an accountant in 1958, and with Emily’s encouragement decided to attend law school at night at Loyola. He was perhaps the only accountant in the history of Shell Oil to transfer to the legal department, and he climbed the ladder, moving his brood from New York to Tulsa back to Chicago and eventually to Houston, making lifelong friends along the way. He left Shell in 1981 to joined NL Industries and quickly became General Counsel. After NL was acquired, he retired at 55. Thanks to good planning and a spouse who loved her career as a nurse, they were able to live comfortably in retirement, enjoying watching their 6 children get (and stay) married and provide them with 14 grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years Emily, their daughter Brenda Cumming and husband Craig and children Chance and Bryce; Daughter Nancy Albrecht and husband Mike, and children Andy, William, and Allison Cassidy and husband Brian; son Robert Hurley, wife Beth and their son Ryan; son Christopher Hurley and wife Holly, and children Ashton and Heather; son Michael Hurley and wife Natalie, and children Keenan, Brendan and Kara; and son Matthew Hurley and wife Marla, and children Lucas, Patrick and Annie; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
