Rose Ann Baiamonte Scanlin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother and sister died peacefully on May 3, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Sugar Land, Texas. Rose was born on February 27, 1928, in Stafford, Tx. She was 98 years old.
Rose graduated from Missouri City High School in 1945 and was a member of the high school volleyball team and continued playing until she broke her arm. Beyond her many roles at home, Rose started her career in 1948 and served as secretary under five school superintendents-Mr. L.R. Rodgers, Mr. Edward Mercer, Mr. Lawrence Elkins, Dr. Rodney LeBoufe and Dr. Raj Chopra until she retired in 1992 after forty-four (44) years of service. The Fort Bend Educational Secretaries and Aides Association (renamed Fort Bend Paraprofessionals’ Association) was started with the assistance of Rose in 1976 and she held the office of secretary and president.
In addition to her home and work life, in her early years she served as Bluebird and Camp Fire Leader for Mary, as well as Girl Scout Leader for Amy. She was a member of the Stafford-Missouri City Lions Club and later served as club secretary, as well as vice chair of their Fourth of July Booth. Rose was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served as President of the Holy Family Altar Society. Rose, along with many of the Sicilian descendants that were all founding members of Holy Family spread the traditions and beliefs of our Catholic Sicilian’ beliefs surrounding St. Joseph. Her connection with the Altar Society gave her great joy in her life. After her retirement, she continued her work with the church, Altar Society and Lions Club, gardening and traveling to the 50 states with her beloved husband, Anthony, in their RV. To her family, Rose will be remembered for her love of sewing/crafts and touching our hearts and “bellies” with her food. She stitched countless dance recital costumes for Mary, school clothes, drill team uniforms, curtains/bedding for baby rooms, as well as Christmas Stockings for each of the grandkids, adorned with hand-stitched sequins and appliques, as well as Christmas ornaments. Family Sunday dinners will always be remembered fondly. Traditional Sunday dinner usually consisted of Spaghetti & Meatballs and Fried Chicken-best Fried Chicken ever and no one can seem to duplicate! For the family, especially the grandkids, Rose always kept a cookie tin full of home baked cookies, positioned low enough in the cabinet for all ages to grab as they liked. Her traditions around the holidays and holy days surrounding food (Cuccidati cookies-aka Fig, Sesame cookies, Pignolata, Easter Birds and Stuffed Artichoke to name a few) will be missed as she just had that magical touch.
Rose was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank Anthony Baiamonte and Carrie Ruffino Baiamonte; her brother, Anthony Frank Baiamonte and her husband, Anthony Lee Scanlin. She is survived by her daughters; Mary Lee Scanlin; Amy Perkins and husband Denny. She is also survived by Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandchild, who affectionately knew her as “MoMo”: Joseph Wallis and wife Amanda; Tamara Haring Matthews and husband Corey; Michael Perkins and wife, Jessica; Austin Perkins and wife, Morgan, Stacey Wallis; Great Grandchildren, Samantha Wallis Williams and her husband Brock, Sydney Wallis, Robert Anthony Haring, Benjamin Haring, Loralai Perkins, Emerson Perkins, Logan Perkins, William Wallis, Maxwell Wallis, Henry Wallis, Hannah Matthews, Jonathan Matthews, Kimberly Matthews and Great-Great Grandchild, Sunny Williams.
