Major Andrew Jackson Broadstone III, USMC, Retired, passed away at his home in Stafford, Virginia on Monday, November 25, 2013. Though he spent a mere 66 years of life on earth, he managed to live every minute of his time with us to the fullest. Drew lived his life in service to others. Drew retired from the United States Marine Corps after twenty years of service in 1990. After serving his country, he became a Stafford County Public School teacher. He taught at both Ferry Farm Elementary School and A. G. Wright Middle School. He retired in 2012 after teaching for twenty years. Drew loved every minute of retirement.
Drew was a devoted son, husband, father, and papa. He always expressed a great love for his family and was extremely proud of his children. He spent his retirement time playing with his grandchildren and walking Lily, his beloved four-legged companion. Drew and Lily went on three-mile walks everyday. He was also an avid reader, gardener, and fan of a number of sports teams. Drew enjoyed playing fantasy football on a league with his two sons and son-in-law. Drew also loved singing with the Catholic choir at the Quantico Marine Corps Memorial Chapel. Our family’s hearts break for our loss, but we know Drew is soaring in heaven with angels at his side.
Drew is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth; three children, James Broadstone, Jessica LoFiego and husband Matthew, Joshua Broadstone and wife Sandra; four grandchildren, Lex, Jackson, Amelia, and Chase; his mother, Dolores Broadstone; two brothers, Daniel and Brian; five sisters, Diane (Patrick) Connelly, Nancy, Holly (David) Albrecht, Lisa Townsend, and Angel (Kerry) Young and his brother-in-law, Kevin Keily. His father, Andrew Jackson Broadstone, II, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel from 4-6:00 PM. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Quantico Marine Corps Memorial Chapel at 9:30 AM, with interment to follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Drew’s name to the Semper Fi Fund, an organization that supports wounded warriors, so that he may continue to be of service to others. Donations can be made online at www.semperfifund.org
