Aurora was born on February 5th, 2011. She is survived by her mother, Anna; her father, Adam; and her younger sister, Amelia.
From the moment she came into this world, she was showered with love from everyone who met her. Aurora became the embodiment of love and kindness as a toddler, always finding joy and beauty in the things around her. Before she could walk, she was enjoying boat rides on the Chesapeake Bay with her Lola and Pop-Pop, and as she grew so did her love for boats, the beach, and the water. As a toddler she enjoyed playing with her dog Ruger, raising baby ducks, feeding wild animals, exploring nature, meeting new people, and experiencing all the things life had to offer.
She was lovingly welcomed into her Lola’s Filipina dancing group, where she enjoyed practicing the traditional tinikiling dance and embracing her love of the Filipino culture. Aurora so enjoyed exploration and travel. She loved exploring the West Coast (California, Oregon, and Washington) as well as visiting North Carolina, and Florida. She loved the beach, particularly the NC Crystal Coast and the Florida Keys. Since she was a young girl, she was able to experience NC beach weeks, off-road adventures in Virginia, and trail riding in the mountains of West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Aurora attended The Red Apple Preschool before going to Margaret Brent Elementary, T. Benton Gayle Middle School, and Mountain View High School. Aurora always loved art and creating beautiful things. Throughout her school career, she made lasting impacts on her teachers and friends through her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity. During middle school she became a percussionist and developed a love for band, further growing her love for music.
Rora was a well-rounded person who loved the variety of life. On any given day you could find her on a four-wheeler, playing with the dogs, creating art, or making yet another playlist to perfectly encapsulate a mood. Most frequently though, she was getting touches on a volleyball. Throughout her life Aurora stayed active; starting out she played soccer, enjoyed gymnastics, and practiced Isshinryu Karate before finding her true passion in volleyball. However, no matter the sport, she never balked at the pain of a bloody nose, sore muscles, skinned knees, or bruises, always keeping her focus on the game and being there for her teammates. She began to show an interest in volleyball as a middle schooler, and after seeing her dedication and love of the sport grow in Rec Leagues, her parents supported her request to play on a travel team. After her first travel season with 540 Volleyball Academy in 2025, she wanted to improve her game by spending her summer with 108 Volleyball Club for their Beach season. After that, she was happy to get back to indoor, and her whole family was elated when she made the Freshman Team at Mountain View High School. Her current travel season at 540VBA was unfortunately cut short. Rora had the heart and court presence that made her the exceptional teammate that she was, no matter which team she played on.
Off the court, she continued to shine at school and with friends. Her pillars of kindness, inclusivity, and empathy were apparent for all to see; and if you were lucky, you got to experience her sharp wit and amazingly weird sense of humor and sarcasm. Her family has taken comfort in the stories shared, knowing that who they knew her to be was the same person that everyone else got to experience as well. None knew this better than her best friend, Hayden. Always wanting others to be comfortable, Aurora introduced herself to the new girl in her 3rd grade class, and for almost half of their lives, those two showed us what true friendship looked like.
Above all, Aurora was a valued family member. Her coming into this world forever changed her parents’ lives. Pride in their daughter and in the relationship they had with her could be seen by all; and the love, guidance, and fun that she had with her sister Amelia is forever cherished. Both could be found passing the volleyball in the driveway, well past sundown on any given day. More than that, Aurora was honored to fill the big sister role and took her duties seriously from day one. Aurora also shared a special relationship with her local Grandparents and Aunt & Uncle and was vocal about her appreciation of them putting Family First. And though they were geographically far, she always had an affinity for her extended family in Florida: Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles, and Cousins. After a couple trips to visit family in Florida, she couldn’t wait to go back and spend more time there. Equally important were the family that we chose, and the love she received from “Aunts”, “Uncles”, and “Cousins”.
Lastly, in recent years, Aurora felt a calling and walked on a path towards faith. Upon her own will, she started exploring Christianity and sought a relationship with Jesus. She enjoyed attending church and youth services with the Burns, where she found her home at The Mount. She found comfort in the Bible, and as an avid reader she quickly explored the book and sought to expand her understanding of it.
Aurora’s passing is an immeasurable loss to this world, as her brightness was still intensifying at the age of 15. She will be dearly missed by the many people who knew and loved her.
