Cleta Fern Cook

Cleta Fern (Stotler) Cook of Stafford, Va., passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the age of 88. Cleta was born Cleda Fern Stotler, at 2A.M. on Saturday, November 22, 1930 in Oakland, WV to her parents, Lester O. Stotler and Vietta Belle (Michael) Stotler. She was married to Herbert Jack Cook on December 24, 1948 and divorced by mutual agreement on April 12, 1995. Cleta had 7 children. Cleta is survived by her daughters, Linda Sylvester of Virginia and Barbara DeWees of Ohio; her sons, Larry Cook of Michigan, Robert Cook of North Carolina, Christopher Cook of Florida and Edward (Ted) Frowd of California; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.; her sisters, Henrietta Schaffer, Ruth Dove, June Miluskewicz and Patricia Hessler; her brother Jack Stotler. She is preceded in death by her former husband, Herbert Jack Cook; her son Herbert Jack Cook Jr.; her parents, Lester and Vietta Stotler; her sister Dorothy Lea Weller; her brother, Dennis Lester Stotler and 3 grandchildren. Cleta was a devoted mother to her children. She maintained close contact with her family, checking in on everyone and keeping all of us connected even though the family is spread out across the country. In 2013 she found peace and a loving relationship when reunited with her first born son, Ted. He had been adopted at birth. Cleta enjoyed her life in Asheville, NC where she lived the later years of her life before moving to Virginia to live with her daughter, Linda, in June 2016. She had her own apartment and she loved to decorate it. She created a garden out in front of her building that all were able to enjoy. She even motivated her neighbors to work on their own gardens. Cleta always checked in on her neighbors and helped them whenever she could. She once told me that she noticed one of the gentlemen always wore pants that were too long. Cleta told him to bring them over and she hemmed them all for him. Cleta was loved by family and friends alike. We miss her and hold her in our hearts.
