Elizabeth J. (Betty) Cover, born Christmas Eve in 1932, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday morning, February 4th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 66 years, James E. Cover, Sr., her son James E. Cover, Jr., and her daughters Deborah A. Smith and Linda M. Poole as well as her brother Tom, and sisters Marilyn and Doris. She leaves behind her brother David and sister Miriam, her son Richard M. Cover (wife Carolyn), her daughter Pamela Davidson, 13 grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth (Betty) was a first-generation American, born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to parents who immigrated from Newfoundland. She met her husband James (Jim) while on a trip to Washington D.C.in 1953 and after a short courtship, mostly via letters, they married in 1954. Although she and Jim had not lived in Massachusetts since the 1960’s, she never lost that distinct accent. Up until the very end, she would tell you to pahk the cah and make sure the gahbagge was taken out!
Elizabeth (Betty) worked as a civilian for the United States Air Force and retired after 40 years of service in 2007. She loved the beach or a backyard swimming pool - but don’t you dare get her hair wet! She was always well put together and even up until the last few days of her life she would ask, “what’s my hair look like?”.
She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. And until her memory faded, she always made sure the Holidays, especially Christmas, were special for everyone. She loved her family, her wonderful husband, Jim, and of course, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She spent hours on her knees praying for every one of her loved ones. Her greatest hope was that all of her children and their children and their children’s children (and so on) would come to know Jesus so that they would all join her one day in Heaven.
Elizabeth (Betty) was a shining example of what a Godly woman should be and she is rejoicing in Heaven now with her husband, Jim and her children who passed before her as well as countless people whose lives she impacted throughout the years.
A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. With her Celebration of Life starting at 2:00pm.
Mrs. Cover's burial will occur Friday, February 9, 2024 at 3:00pm at Stafford Memorial Park, 154 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, Virginia.
