Freddie Lewis Surrey, beloved son of Rufus Surrey, Sr. and Virgie Surrey, was born on March 14, 1953, and departed this life on March 17, 2026. It is with deep sorrow and enduring love that we remember and celebrate the life of someone who meant so much to us. Freddie’s kindness and warmth touched the lives of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Freddie graduated from Garfield High School. He had a love for simple joys in life, especially spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing basketball and horseshoes. Freddie cared for his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children.
Freddie was committed to his work. He held multiple positions at Woodies and served primarily as a stock clerk at Giant Food. He genuinely enjoyed working the night shift, where he could listen to his music, connect with coworkers, and build meaningful friendships that lasted beyond the workplace.
Every year, the Surrey family looked forward to their Christmas gift exchange, all wishing Freddie and Bunny would pick their name because they gave the best gifts. Freddie had a heart and deep love for the things around him. He took pride in his Monte Carlo Super Sport and found companionship and joy in his beloved dogs, Bud and J.J. He even shared his kindness with nature – feeding squirrels that visited his balcony and a fox that often appeared in the woods at his workplace. He never ended a phone conversation without saying, “Love you”.
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Eunice “Bunny” Surrey. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his brother, Rufus Surrey, Jr., sisters, Barbara Corbin and Sheila Surrey. His legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in Crystal, Marcus, Dana and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Following his request there will not be a service.
