George Anne Duckett, 80, of Stafford, VA passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019. She was born on May 12, 1939 in Elgin, IL, she was the daughter of the late Viola M. Leach and Carver J. Leach, Sr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Carver, Jr, Willard, and sister Hollis Caraway. George Anne was elected to office and represented District 12 for 14 years on the Winnebago County Board. She was very active in the Democratic Party and served as Vice Chairman on the Winnebago Central Committee for several terms. She attended Elgin High School and graduated in 1957 from Parker High School, in Chicago, IL. She continued her education and received an Associate Degree of Arts at the age of 70 years old. George Anne was the recipient of many awards and honors. She served on many boards and commissions. She was Vice President of the Rockford Neighborhood and Development Corporation organization and was present(at O’Hara Airport) to receive the Points of Light, Presidential Award from President George H.W. Bush for the organization’s accomplishment of providing renovated homes to first time low income buyers. She was also publisher and owner of the Vital Force Newspaper that was circulated in 7 cities for more than 20 years. The Vital Force was recognized by former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar and displayed at the state capital in Springfield, IL. George Anne was a member of the NAACP, NCNW, Rainbow Push Coalition, ACLU Southern Poverty Law Center and the Democratic National Committee. George Anne will be remembered as a community activist and advocate for the disenfranchised. She is survived by her sisters, Viola Yvonne Mayes (Denny) of Elgin, IL, Billie Jefferson of San Diego, CA and a brother Henry Leach (Paulette) of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by her children, Geoffrey Duckett (Margot) of Charlotte, NC, Timothy Duckett (Karen) of Stafford, VA, Cynthia Wortham of Stafford, VA, Constance Duckett of Stafford, VA, Shelly Duckett of Stafford, VA; 12 grandchildren, Geoffrey, Amber, Danielle, Casey, Charmaine, Alexandrea, Taylur, Dominique, Carissa, Cara, Kelsey, Jensen and Hunter; 3 great grandchildren, Kyra, Evan, Kaylee, Rocco and Andrew and one on the way, Dash Sparks and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the United Faith Christian Ministry, 150 Susa Drive, Stafford VA with Bishop Leonard Lacy officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford and from 10:00-11:00am Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the United Faith Christian Ministry, 150 Susa Drive, Stafford VA. Interment will follow at the Stafford Memorial Park.
