Gertrude Jean Cain

Jeannie was a devout Christian who dedicated her life to being of service to others. Her calling was children’s ministry. She did children’s outreach programs, ran Sunday school classes, handled Vacation Bible School programs, and bible studies for young people, as well as traveling and singing with her husband, Paul, in many churches in Ohio, Texas, and communities in Mexico. She worked as an elementary school teacher’s aide in Fabens, TX for over 30 years. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. She was a brilliant woman, a talented artist, and a constant source of love, guidance and support to everyone who knew her and was deeply loved in return.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eugene Cain, her sons Randy Martin, and Robert Dean Cain, her parents Hubert and Evelina (Orman) Bowers, and her siblings Carl, Ralph, Floyd and Elanor Faye Bowers.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Contreras (Leo) of Stafford VA; her sister, Diana Short of Cambridge, Ohio; five grandchildren, Victoria Vaughn, Christopher Hernandez, Aaron Contreras (Leigh), Justin Contreras and Holly Gonzalez (Anthony); and seven great- grandchildren, Jacob Anthony Vaughn, Christopher Hernandez Jr., Alexus Rose Hernandez, Michael Anthony Hernandez, Demi Contreras, Vincent Aaron Contreras, and Lydia Valeria Gonzalez; and daughter-in-law, Yolanda Cain; as well as all of her extended family and friends.

There will be a reception to celebrate her life hosted by her family on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 12:00-2:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA.
