

He was born on January 5, 1934 in Coldwater, Kentucky to Lennis Franklin Hargrove and Mallie Josie Hargrove (née Skaggs).
Jim spent his career serving his country and retired from both active-duty Air Force and civil service Army.
He is survived by his wife Sally, daughter and son-in-law, Christy Hargrove-Raska and Michael Raska, two granddaughters Chloe and Michaela Raska, all of Fredericksburg; his sister Juanita “Nita” Crawford and his brothers Donald (Bonnie) Hargrove and Kenneth Hargrove, all of Mayfield, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brothers Joe Hargrove and Lennis Murrel Hargrove, and his sister Virginia Biss.
Jim or Ed, as he was called by his family, enjoyed telling stories punctuated with his infectious laugh. He deeply loved God, his family and friends, University of Kentucky basketball, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery, Mayfield, KY on May 30, 2026, at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life luncheon following at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Family Life Center. Casual dress in your favorite UK or Cardinal attire is requested as Jim preferred being in comfortable clothes sporting his favorite teams.
