He is survived by his parents, Alex and Lynor Abetria; his brothers, Leander “Lee” Abetria and Liam Walter Abetria; and his grandmothers, Luningning Schwartzhoff and Lydia Calibjo.
Leo was the kindest person you could ever meet. He cared deeply for others and never expected anything in return. He liked to keep his room and belongings organized and enjoyed a wide variety of foods. He was righteous, devoted to his faith, and had a gentle, thoughtful spirit.
He loved playing video games and had a brilliant mind, often making jokes that were as clever as they were funny. He had been truly thrilled and deeply proud when he was accepted into the Commonwealth Governor’s School, a milestone that meant so much to him. Focused and forward-thinking, he dreamed of attending MIT and worked hard toward that goal. He was a model student, a model friend, a model teenager, a model son, and above all, a model human being.
Leo enjoyed playing lacrosse and took pride in getting stronger at the gym. Determined and disciplined, he approached every goal with purpose. He was also a talented young chef who loved experimenting with new recipes and cooking for the people he loved. He was able to take part in a cherished family tradition, placing the first ornament on the Christmas tree. He was fully ready and excited for Christmas this year, not only because he had thoughtfully chosen and purchased gifts for everyone, but also because the family had planned a road trip to Iowa to celebrate the holiday at his grandmother’s house, something he was very much looking forward to.
He had a sharp sense of style, a love of learning, and a curiosity about the world. He treasured the opportunity to travel, having visited many countries, and looked forward to exploring South Korea and Japan.
