Lloyd Morgan Alday, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.
He was born on December 14, 1949 in Sneads, Florida to the late Morgan Daniel and Lula (Blackmon) Alday. As his biological family splintered at age 10, he was informally adopted by Mr. and Mrs. WG Parker of Quincy Florida who raised him to adulthood and provided him with three older sisters to add to this second family.
Lloyd enlisted in the USMC after high school graduation and his third family was formed in service of his country. (He would adopt several other families through his associations in the Marines as well.) Lloyd served faithfully and proudly for a total of 23 years of active and reserve duty. He retired as a GySgt.
Lloyd loved fiercely and never met a stranger. He was known as a friendly soul with a big laugh. He never met a baby or a dog he didn’t like (unless the dog bit him!) and you could always count on him to greet you with a smile no matter how badly he was hurting from the many health challenges he suffered from. Though his pain was constant, Lloyd was the first person to tell you “it could be worse” and was steadfast in counting his blessings. He loved his wife, children, their spouses, and especially his beloved grandchildren, as well as many fur babies, with his whole heart. He also loved his church family and was a dedicated member of Summit Presbyterian which has been our fourth family for over 30 years.
The family wish to express our gratitude to the Stafford Co EMS of station 14 for their frequent assistance in his last weeks, as well as the wonderful nursing staff on the critical care unit at Mary Washington Hospital for their gentle care in his final hours.
Survivors include his loving wife Joan Alday; two children: Monica Alday and wife Diana; and Morgan Gallant and husband Matthew; two grandchildren: Griffin and Madison Gallant; sisters: Josie Forsee and husband Fred, Patricia Crutchfield, Juanita Shepard, Doris Wilson and husband Grady, and Annie Banks; brothers: Frank Alday, Ervin Alday and wife Heidi, Eddie Alday and wife Jenna; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Joe Alday and sisters: Inette McDaniel, Jeanette Day and Bobbie Lowery.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 3:00 PM with a reception to follow at Summit Presbyterian Church, 256 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA 22556 with Reverends H. Carson Rhyne and Daniel Hrach officiating. Interment will be at a later date and private.
