AUX SOINS DE
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service
Lowell Wallace Berg was born 5 February 1950 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, and died in Fredericksburg, Virginia, 13 January 2023 after a two and half year battle with glioblastoma.
In 1968, Lowell graduated from River Valley High School in Three Rivers, Michigan, and he earned a BS in Criminal Justice from Troy State University, Alabama.
Lowell married Cathy Ann Ferry in 1971 after three chance encounters at Fort Stewart, Georgia when Cathy was involved in three separate car crashes during a three week period and Lowell was the responding MP (Military Police) on each occasion. Love at first sight may not have worked, but the third time was certainly the charm. Cathy insists that the crashes were not her fault; they married three months later.
"Lowie" and Cathy welcomed the birth of their daughter Michelle Ann (Barrett) in 1972 at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
After a break in military service, Lowell again joined the Army as a special agent in the Criminal Investigation Division, and faithfully served his country for 24 years. He achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4.
Lowell's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd award), National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
Upon retirement from the Army, Lowell worked for ISO Claims Solutions.
While not at work, Lowell was an avid fisherman, and lived by a simple code: "Bait your own hook, clean your own fish, and tell your own lies."
Above all, Tata loved to dote on his granddaughter, Olivia.
Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace D. Berg and Ruth E. Berg, and is survived by his wife. Cathy A. Berg; his daughter, Michelle A. (Charles V. Barrett); and his adoring granddaughter, Olivia E. Barrett. Lowell is also survived by his two younger brothers, Randy and Brian, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life scheduled for 20 January at 6pm at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home. Arrangements for an inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be made in 12-18 months.
