Nancy Lea Nelson, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. She was born on January 23, 1938, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to the late Harold and Lois (Bolain) Brown. Mrs. Nelson graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri with a Bachelor of Science. She had several employers over her career which included IBM, Booz Allen, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), Phillips 66 and Continental Oil. Some of the significant happenings in her career were to organize and manage a banquet for pilot heroes while she worked at ALPA. The many pilot heroes in attendance included Charles Lindberg and General Jimmie Doolittle. She was one of about five individuals who published a monthly magazine while she worked at ALPA. She also participated in workgroup to coordinate with the architects for the new headquarters of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) in New Jersey, to ensure that the building design supported the unique workflow requirements of (J&J). She was an avid quilter and a member of the Stafford PieceMakers Quilt Guild. She was a member and a past President of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Predeceased by her parents and granddaughter, Emily Taylor Edmondson. Survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Larry Nelson; two sons: Gayle Edmondson (Debra) and James Edmondson (Gail); sister: Sarah Jane Baker; four grandchildren: Gayle Edmondson, Andrew Edmonson and Kathryne Jenson, Mac Edmondson; seven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Summit Presbyterian Church, 256 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA 22554 with Pastor Dan Hrach officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
