Perry Clinton Honeycutt

Perry Clinton Honeycutt, age 76, of Stafford, Virginia passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 47 years, Monika Honeycutt; his sons, Patrick (Yvonne) and Christian (Lisa); his daughter, Susanne (Eddy); his grandchildren, Tim, Marie, Dylan, Carly, Anton and Klara; and his brother, Donald Honeycutt. Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee and Lillian Honeycutt; his brothers, Edward, Armand, and Jerry and his sisters, Doloris and Emily. Growing up he had a love for cars and as a teenager he street raced cars for fun. Perry volunteered and signed up for the US. Army in 1968 and retired at rank E7 SFC in 1991 as a Logistics Specialist. After retiring from the Army, he worked 16 more years in Gov. Service and in 2002 moved back to the US where he worked at Walter Reed Army medical Hospital, retiring for good in 2007. He received his first tour/orders to go overseas in 1970 after coming back from leave and preparing to go to Vietnam. While in the mess hall after his block leave he got called into the Colonel office and was told he would not go to Vietnam he would be sent to Germany. That is also were he met his wife, Monika and he found his second love, Jaeger schnitzel. This was one of his favorite dishes. After being in Germany, he fell in love with beer and beer steins. He started to collect beer steins and ended up having around 500. At the German festivals he would make many German friends while volunteering to run the beer tap and talking to people. One of his favorite hobbies was to fish and he made sure to pass that on to his sons. He took them fishing and camping on weekends when they did not have soccer games. He always hoped to one day have a big yacht and take everyone fishing to catch their personal best record/big fish. He was also very interested in history. He started to collect WWII historical items and as he knew the Berlin wall was going fall in 1989, he drove his car up to Berlin multiple times to bring back pieces of the wall. On one of his trips, he gathered one of his most prized possession a 300-pound piece of the Berlin wall which was the end piece of checkpoint Charlie, this was the American guard check going into West Germany. After collecting that piece of the wall, he told everyone about his prize possession even strangers as they thought it would be a quick conversation, they didn’t know what they were in for. He also always made it a point to tell everyone that he was the only one with a 20 lbs. sledgehammer rather than everyone else having a 16 oz. hammer. He also collected knives particularly Bowie knives, stamps and coins. His favorite coins to chase down was the US Silver dollar. “Our dad was very involved, supportive in our lives especially when it came to sports. He always drove us to soccer and my sister to her Basketball games on the weekends. He cleaned, washed, and waxed his cars for hours in the driveway while we played basketball on the hoop, he got us. We enjoyed many family vacations together that meant camping in Italy and a visit to the US, where we would visit all his brothers and sisters on the east coast from Florida to Massachusetts.” “After moving to Manassas in 2002 and only a few hours from Portsmouth where he grew up, he was able to reestablish old friendships and go to High school reunions. He took many trips to the beach, we fished the old spots him and his dad used too. Gettysburg, PA was one of his bucket list items to visit. In 2023 we all drove as a family to Gettysburg and spent an extended weekend to visit the battlefield.” He enjoyed old westerns with Clint Eastwood, John Wayne and the Andy Griffith show. Perry always made sure his wife and children were taking care of. A visitation for Perry will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service,Stafford Chapel. His funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home with his interment following at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA.
