He was born in Virginia on August 29, 1951 to the late William Van Thompson and Helen Smith Thompson. Randy graduated from West Springfield high school in 1969. He was married to Sandra Locklear Thompson for 28 years. He was the President of Springfield Rental Crane where he enjoyed operating cranes for over 40 years. Randy spent most of his time providing for his family, watching NASCAR races and feeding the birds.
He was a brother to the late Robert Ernest Thompson and his living sister Katherine Russell Thompson. He leaves behind his wife, Sandra; children, Justin Van Thompson, Kasey Vanessa Thompson and stepson Jason Lee Locklear.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Sunday, February 10th at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 11th with burial at 2pm in Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington.
The family is asking that flower arrangements be sent to the funeral home and/or donations to the Children’s Cancer Society.
