He is survived by two daughters, Laurie B. Potter of Stafford and Brenda L. Rose and husband Gary of Staunton; brother, Jack Payne and wife, Barbara of South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Steven Sprankle, SSgt. Sean Potter, Stacy Potter, and David, Martha, John, James, and Joshua Rose, and Sarah Rose Stuart; five great grandchildren, Quincy Potter, and Jonathan, Micah, Elijah, and Isaac Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joel Rose, and sister, Marie Torrance.
Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 3:00 PM, with full military honors.
