Born in Stamford, CT. to John Maffucci and Clarice Sarantos on April 19, 1950, Al-as he was known to family and friends-went on to graduate from Rippowam High School in 1973. He worked as a fabric craftsman and skilled draper alongside his father, for more than 30 years, at the family owned Fabric Center in Springdale. Al’s skilled and expert work can still be found in hundreds of homes and offices throughout Fairfield County and New York City. He later worked as a driver for Napa Auto Parts in Springdale, and made many close friends there.
Al’s greatest joy was competing in bocce ball, both in local leagues and against his siblings, nieces, and nephews at their annual Father’s Day tournaments at Scalzi Park in Stamford. He was also an avid golfer and skier, and would go on frequent ski outings to the Poconos with his friends from The Knights of Columbus, where he was a longtime member. The same group also went on horseback riding trips to the Ridin-Hy Adirondack Ranch Resort in Lake George, NY.
Al, who was known by everyone he met as the sweetest and kindest person, will be dearly missed by all of his friends, and the family who survive him, including his sister Elizabeth Maffucci Gray, his brother-in-law Paul Gray, his niece Laurie Maffucci Gray Ott and her husband Harald Ott, his nephews Kevin Gray and Tim Gray, his great nephews Justin Ott and James Gray, and his great niece Katherine Gray. Al was predeceased by his parents, his sister Clarice Maffucci Herrman, and his niece Colleen Gray Failla.
