
Elizabeth Evans of Stamford, CT passed away November 29th at Stamford Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by her friends and care givers, Elizabeth’s courage, good humor, sage counsel, endless generosity and faith filled life was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Born in Winfield Kansas on July 22, 1926 to Evan and Kathleen (Clinton) Evans, Elizabeth earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Phi Beta Kappa key at the University of Kansas. Her Masters Degree in Psychology and Counseling was awarded by Northwestern University in Chicago.
Elizabeth’s professional career included teaching psychology and counseling at the collegiate level and a series of marketing and human resources positions at major U.S. corporations, including the Hallmark Corporation in Kansas City, and the Reuben H. Donnelley Company in New York City and Stamford, CT. Elizabeth retired in 1989.
Elizabeth devoted countless hours and energy to many volunteer community services, and her proudest and deepest commitment was to her hospice work at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence from it founding in 2000.
A devout Episcopalian, Elizabeth worshipped at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Stamford. Over the years, she served and led as a senior warden, served multiple terms on the St. John’s Foundation Board of Directors and a host of the church’s guilds and committees.
A memorial Eucharist will be celebrated on Friday, December 9th at 11am, at St. John’s Episcopal Church; 628 Main Street in Stamford. A reception at the church will follow the service.
Friends may call at the Gallagher Funeral home at 2900 Summer Street in Stamford on Thursday December 8th from 4pm to 8pm.
