Elmer Hvolbeck MacKay of Venice, FL formally of Greenwich, CT died November 23, 2010. A Memorial Service and internment with Military honors will be held at 11:00 on December 18, at The North Greenwich Congregational Church, 606 Riversville Road, Greenwich, CT. In addition, a Memorial Service in Venice, FL will be planned after the New Year. Elmer was 6 months predeceased, by his wife, of 66 years, Constance Rae MacKay. Survivors include; daughter, Donna Atkins of Norwalk, CT and Venice, FL, daughter, Heather MacKay of Stamford, CT and son, Douglas MacKay of Woodbury, CT, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and brother, James T. MacKay of Venice, FL. Born in Greenwich, CT, Elmer graduated from Greenwich High School in 1942 followed by service in the U. S. Army as Sergeant in the 544 Boat and Shore Battalion in the Pacific Theater. Upon his discharge in 1946 he started his career at GAF Corporation as a Superintendent of the piano felt division that lasted for 33 years. After retiring at age 55, being a skilled carpenter and tradesman, building his own home, he started a business as a home improvement contractor. Elmer was an avid golfer who played at Bruce Golf Course in Greenwich before moving to Florida when he became a member of the Men’s Golf Association of the Plantation Golf and Country Club for almost 30 years.
