

Gladys Sylvia Field, 95, a longtime resident of Rye, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2012. She was born September 19, 1918 to Solomon “Charlie” Abramson and Esther Schoenbrun Abramson in the Bronx, New York.
Always a pioneer, she graduated Hunter College in 1939. She married Sidney Paul Field in 1941 and was happily married for over 58 years. She was an avid reader, follower of current events and a woman of great courage and strength. Gladys was both active and beloved at the Osborn Retirement Community, where she served on many committees and performed as part of an improvisation group.
She loved to travel and frequently visited her grandchildren and great-grandchildren across the country. Survivors include her daughter Constance Elkinson of Stamford, Connecticut, son Richard Field and wife Kathie Hepler of Washington, DC, grandson Ken Elkinson and wife Edie Elkinson of Venice, California, grandson Dan Elkinson and wife Dr. Elizabeth Elkinson of Lexington, Kentucky, and grandson Dr. Michael Bachman and wife Dr. Sara Bachman of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She is also survived by great grandchildren Emery Elkinson, Abby Bachman, Siena Elkinson, Gabriel Elkinson, Caroline Elkinson, Ryder Elkinson and Josie Bachman.
