Grace Steele

Gay was a creative talented artist who loved to paint as well as other artistic mediums. She retired from Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY where she was a teacher’s assistant, and after retirement continued to volunteer at the school. She loved to travel and saw much of the world with her two husbands, but always considered herself as a “just a gal from the Bronx”. Her warmth and kindness was evidenced by everyone she encountered.

Gay is predeceased by her first husband Douglas Burrell who passed in 1976, she is survived by her four children (and spouses), Doug (Siobhan), Marc (Jackie), Patricia (Doug), and Nancy (Bill). Gay is also predeceased by her second husband Arthur Steele, and is survived by two children (and spouses), Diane (Alvin), and Bob (Janet)

Gay is the beloved Grandmother of Jason, Craig, John, Evan, Dan, Katelin, Max, Eric, Martine, Stephanie, Jamie, Liam, and Jennifer. She is the Great-Grandmother of 8 (and one on the way). She is also survived by her Sister in Law and friend, Janet Joyce. Gay was the matriarch to a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. The family will be forever grateful the wonderful staff at Waveny Care Center where she spent the last several years.

There will be one viewing from 4pm to 8 pm on Wednesday Sept. 27th, 2017 at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home located at 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. A funeral mass will be said at the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, 279 Atlantic Street Stamford, CT on Thursday September 28th at 10:00 A.M. followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
