

Jean Gordon Seidler, beloved and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, departed from her home in Stamford, Connecticut, on March 13 after a brief illness. Jean was a Stamford resident from 1956 through 2024.
Jean was born in New York, New York, on March 16, 1928. Her parents were Louis and Martha Gordon. Jean grew up near Fort Tryon Park in Manhattan. She was graduated from Hunter College High School in New York, New York, in 1945 and from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1949.
While attending Cornell, Jean met Sanford Warren Seidler, who was returning to Cornell after serving in the US Navy during World War II. They were married in New York, New York, on April 7, 1949, and enjoyed their family life until Sandy passed in December 2009. Jean achieved a master of arts degree in education in 1950 while working as a teacher in New York City public schools. After Jean and Sandy moved to Stamford in 1956, Jean served as a substitute teacher in the Stamford and Greenwich school systems. She received an associate in science (par legal studies) degree from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1978, and pursued a brief career as a paralegal in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Jean and Sandy raised three daughters, one Collie, and three Golden Retrievers. Jean enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, needlework, and miniature furniture crafts. She was an active member of the Fairfield County Chapter of Brandeis National Committee and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and FISH of Stamford transportation services.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Sanford, and her daughter Susan. Jean is survived by daughters Lyn Seidler and Marianne Seidler, son-in-law Wick Chambers, grandsons Jonathan (Mona) and Timothy Chambers (Lindsay), and great-grandson Berkeley Chambers.
The family will have a private memorial.
