

John Ward Carroll Jr., born on July 6, 1946 in Freeport, Long Island, died on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Stamford Hospital after a long illness. John grew up in Riverside, graduated from St. Mary's High School, class of 1965, attended Xavier University and graduated from University of Bridgeport, playing outstanding football through those years. John was an insurance broker for Shoreline Associates and Paul Revere Insurance Co. as well as a Program Manager for Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut where he placed disabled people into job opportunities. John was also a guardian for two individuals who had difficulty managing life skills. John dedicated his life to helping people in trouble, volunteering at places like Laurel House and Pacific House, both in Stamford, and Waveny Care Center in New Canaan. John was a man of great compassion and insight, a man of service who taught life lessons to many. He loved his family deeply, especially his daughters. He was very much loved in return and will be gravely missed. John is survived by his wife Judith, of Stamford, his daughters Rebecca and Emily, both of Seattle, his stepdaughters Kim and Natalie, his sister Bridget Carroll Snyder, of Riverside, his brothers Edward, of Old Greenwich, and Tom, of West Haven, and seven grandchildren. His parents Jack and Ann Carroll, of Riverside, predeceased him. Visitation will be Thursday, January 12th from 4-8pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St, Stamford. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, January 13th 11:00 AM at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave. in Stamford.
