

Joseph William Syrokwash passed away December 9, 2013 at the age of 82. He was born in Stamford to the late Wasil Syrokwash and Mary Kaptuch May 19, 1931, and lived in Stamford for all of his 82 years. Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years Marie Urban Syrokwash, daughter Suzanne Chamberlin, son-in-law Rex Chamberlin, and his much loved granddaughter Amy Chamberlin of Wakefield, RI; nieces Barbara Vavala, Mary Ann Nugent and nephew Lou Rich. Joe was predeceased by infant son Robert, sisters Mary, Helen, Anne Budko, Sonia Zboyan, and Alice Rich.
Joe attended Stamford schools and graduated from J. M. Wright Technical as a Carpenter.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Woodland Cemetery Assoc. for many years.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Deep Sea Diver and Damage Control Fireman. After an honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to being a full-time carpenter. He loved watching TV basketball and TV football, but, most of all, he loved his family.
Family and friends may call on December 11 from 4-6 p.m. at the Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St. in Stamford. A Christian service will be held December 12 at Woodland Cemetery Chapel, 66 Woodland Pl. in Stamford. with Pastor William Kroeze of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
