Lois, the only child of Celia Swit Silberstein and Morris Silberstein, both Stamford natives, lived in the community for most of her life. In 2004, she and her husband Stanley Udell relocated to Palm Beach, Florida where she lived until her death. Stylish, beautiful and always immaculately turned out, Lois enjoyed a long career in the field of fashion, having spent 20 years as a personal shopper at Saks Fifth Avenue in Stamford. Designers and clients alike sought out her refined and elegant eye, supreme good taste and uncanny ability to make those she dressed not only look wonderful, but also feel confident. Curious, keenly intelligent and eager to experience the excitement of new places, Lois and Stanley traveled the world, exploring Asia as their son David's career took him from country to country; they also were blessed to enjoy travel throughout Europe, the Caribbean Islands and the United States. Her passport required replacement multiple times, having been filled with visas and entry and exit stamps from across the globe. After successfully overcoming colon cancer, Lois became a dedicated volunteer at The Cancer Center at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she was devoted to her work in the infusion room, providing emotional support to the patients who grew to love her positive spirit, high energy and encouragement. Having undergone cancer treatment herself, she had a deeply personal connection with the patients she tended to: despite being ill herself, she continued to volunteer twice weekly until early this May. Lois is survived by her son, David Udell, daughter-in-law Pam Udell, and twin granddaughters, Bo and Bree Udell, all of Hong Kong; as well as her daughter, Heidi Udell of South Norwalk; and her sister, Maryanne Engel of White Plains. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at 11 am at the Temple Beth El Cemetery, 350 Roxbury Road, in Stamford. A reception in her honor will be held at The Hyatt Regency Greenwich on Thursday, September 10 from 4 to 7 pm. Donations in her memory may be made to The Lustgarten Foundation in support of their research efforts in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
