Marjorie Auerbach Rosenthal passed away peacefully on April 8, 2020 from complications of the corona virus. She was born in Manhattan in 1919, was raised on Long Island in “The Five Towns”, and married a local boy, Robert Rosenthal of Lawrence, in 1941. She lived for the vast majority of her long life in Woodmere, New York then, following a disabling stroke, she moved in 2006 with her husband to The Greens of Greenwich, an assisted living facility in Connecticut and she transferred in 2019 to the Greenwich Woods nursing home.
Marjorie graduated from Woodmere High School and went to work as a nursing assistant to a local doctor. After marrying she devoted herself to raising her three children and to maintaining her beautiful garden on Midwood Road. Later she became the president of the local gardening club, and then started her own business as a landscape architect, winning contracts to design gardens for private clients as well as the local library and traffic circles. In later years she worked for the Peninsula Counseling Center of Hewlett, where she ran the local Big Brother – Big Sister program.
Marjorie will be most remembered for her sweet and pleasant personality—never a complaint, always a smile; true even during the final difficult years. She was a wonderful listener, able to draw out long stories from the most reticent of speakers. The house on Midwood was always full of friends and family, laughter and good feelings.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Mildred and Sig, by her husband, Bob, and by her youngest son Ricky. She is survived by her sons Andy of Manalapan, New Jersey and Bobby of Stamford, Connecticut, also by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by all.
