Myra Lubitz Graubard, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 21, 2024. Born in New York City on November 23, 1943, to the late Minnie and Irving Lubitz, Myra was a devoted daughter who carried with her the cherished memory of her older brother, Reuben Lubitz, throughout her life.
Myra graduated Phi Beta Kappa from New York University in 1965 and New York University Law School in 1968. It was during her time in law school that she married John J. Graubard, her loving husband of over 50 years, who passed away in 2023.
Myra was a dedicated and selfless mother, always placing her children’s needs above her own. She ensured that her children had the best opportunities in life, from education to personal growth, while supporting them with unconditional love.
Her compassion extended beyond her family, as Myra believed passionately in fairness, equality, and justice, and she was deeply affected by the inequities she saw in the world. As a lawyer, she worked tirelessly to support her clients, always striving to help others in every aspect of her work.
Myra had a special love for animals, particularly birds, and found great peace in observing them. She enjoyed spending time with friends - often taking long walks in the park or at the beach together to admire the simplicity and beauty of nature.
Myra also deeply appreciated the arts and music, traveling often to New York City to visit museums, hear the symphony, go to the theater, and hear lectures.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family; especially her children, her grandson Adam, her husband, and her cousins Maxine, Rita, and Bill, with whom she shared a close, sibling-like bond.
She is survived by her daughter, Naomi Kinderman (Marc) of Stamford; her son, Michael Graubard (Heather) of Seattle, Washington; and her grandson, Adam Kinderman. Myra will be remembered for her kindness, humility, and the love she shared with all those around her.
Services will be held at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford, Connecticut at 1:00 p.m., on October 23 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Schoke Jewish Family Services.
