Robert Sanford Fields, of Stamford, died December 6, 2017, two weeks before his 88th birthday. Born December 20, 1929, to Maurice and Esther (née Chiz) Fields. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS New Jersey BB62. He was a graduate of The Peddie School, Class of 1947, Brown University Class of 1951 and Tufts University Dental School. He came to Stamford and established a thriving orthodontic practice from which he retired only one year ago, after close to 60 years. A pillar of the Stamford community, he served on countless boards, including Stamford Hospital, Family Centers and Temple Beth El. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan (née Flax), and his loving children Steven August (Anne), Andrea Oley (Bob), Ellen Osman and Kate Osman (Bart). Also survived by his nine doting grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road in Stamford on Friday December 8 at 10 a.m. Donations should be made to the Stamford Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
