

Born in Stamford , Connecticut , on August 25, 1936, to attorney Michael Wofsey and his wife Freda, she attended Stamford High School and the University of Connecticut . Susan worked in book publishing in New York City , and then returned to Connecticut to breed and show dogs. She and her husband Jack DeWitt rose to prominence as noted breeders of Cairn and Norfolk Terriers, and together owned 23 Cairn champions and four Norfolk champions. Susan was a founding member of the Housatonic Cairn Terrier Club, and a leader in the rescue activities for both breeds. She was also a founding member of the Westport Emergency Medical Service, and an active EMT volunteer for 30 years.
Jack, Susan’s husband of 32 years, died last June. She is survived by her sister Linda Asher of Manhattan ; her nieces Rachel Asher and husband Andrew Kuhn of Katonah , New York , and Abigail Asher and husband Marco De Martino of Manhattan , and their children; by stepchildren Jennifer DeWitt of Phoenix , Arizona , Jeff DeWitt and his wife Kim of Norwalk, and granddaughter Michelle DeWitt, also of Norwalk .
Interment will be private. The family welcomes Susan’s friends to a memorial gathering to be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford , Ct.
