Virginia Aylesworth Kandetzki

A longtime resident of Stamford, she is survived by her children, Thomas Aylesworth and his wife Julie, Paula Belair and her husband Charles, Richard Kandetzki and his wife Maria, James Christenson, as well as grandchildren Robyn Belair, Katherine and Ramone Reyes, Matthew Kandetzki, and great-grandchildren Paul and Marion Reyes and Dorothy Kandetzki.

Born December 3rd, 1928, in Chicago Illinois to Carl and Johanna Boelter, Ginger, as she was called, was preceded in death by her first husband Thomas Gibbons Aylesworth, her second husband Robert Paul Kandetzki, her sister Johanna Rawlings, and her daughter Carol Jean Christenson.

Following the end of WWII she and Thomas married.

In 1952 she received her Bachelor of Science in Education with high distinction from Indiana University. They moved to Middletown in 1963. While living in Middletown she raised her two children and attended Wesleyan University from which she received her Masters of Arts in 1965.

Soon after the family moved again to Stamford and Ginger started to teach art in the Greenwich elementary school system. After 20 years of teaching art she switched to teaching math in junior high which she did until she retired in 1995.

She was a very active member of St Andrews Episcopal Church , and after retiring from teaching became the parish secretary until retiring in 2015.

Ginger was a founding member of the Shippan Gourmet Club and participated in their events.

She was for many years a member of the Stamford Yacht Club where she sailed her boat in the sound and played tennis daily.

Her house was open to all, and at any time you would find international students, world travelers, friends and family visiting and living under her roof.

Ginger was sharp, intelligent, observant, and always helpful. Always positive and hopeful, she found and brought out the best in those around her.

“Its all about the attitude”, she said.

A memorial service will be held at St Andrews Church,1231 Washington Blvd, Stamford, on October 20th at 10:00 am.
