Virginia passed away peacefully in her home in Stamford, Connecticut on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the age of 92. Her kind and generous nature was her hallmark, and she will be dearly missed by her family and close friends who were privileged to experience it first-hand.
Born in Medford, MA on June 22, 1925 to William and Florence McManus, Virginia married John Edward Mitchell in 1953. The couple moved to Stamford over 60 years ago, and there they raised two children. Virginia most enjoyed sitting on her porch with her family enjoying warm summer days, although anywhere with her family was her favorite place.
Known affectionately to many as “Grandma Jinny,” she loved children. She spent some of her most cherished years at her granddaughter’s elementary school lovingly encouraging children to reach their potential. She was known by teachers, parents and children as generous with both her time and energy. She will be remembered as a woman full of life, with an inspiring supply of optimism.
Virginia is predeceased by her husband Edward, daughter Deborah, and brother Warren. She is survived by her son John, daughter-in-law Julie, granddaughter Nicole, and sister Louise.
