Allen Wayne Hampton, Sr., 72, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday February 15, 2020. Allen was a family man who was devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He proudly served the United States in the U. S. Army as a member of the 173 and 82 Airborne. He loved to fish and be outdoors. Allen loved to take long drives. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs – especially Sassy. He enjoyed all sports and he was definitely a Panthers, UNC-Tar Heels and Atlanta Braves fan. Allen never met a stranger. He was very sociable and would strike up a conversation with anyone. Professionally he was a steel fabricator. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Allen is the son of the late Roselle (Salyer) and Wade Hampton. Allen was the last of his siblings. He is preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Left to cherish their memories of Allen and to carry on his legacy are his daughter; Amanda Dawn Rowland and sons; Robert Hampton, Allen “Wayne” Hampton, Jr. and his wife Vicky, Adam Dewayne Hampton and his wife Misty and Aaron Michael Hampton. Missing their grandfather are Devin, Dalton, Caitlyn, Jonathan, Jessica, Travis, Elizabeth “Libby”, Kira and Michaela. He leave behind his two great-grandchildren; Kayson and Ainsley. Grieving the loss of Allen is his ex-wife, mother of his children and “best friend” Edna Maney.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday February, 17, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel – Stanley, 412 South Main Street, Stanley, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm before the service at the funeral home. Pastor Jason Marlowe will offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Allen. Devin Rushing, Dalton Rushing, Chris Maney, Jessie Bolen, Andrew Bone and Josh Chapman will serve as pallbearers.
The United States Army and the Gaston County Honor Guard will accord full military honors to Allen at the graveside. The committal and burial will follow the chapel service at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum, 2858 NC-150, Lincolnton.
