Gary was born on January 8, 1959 in Mt Vernon, OH to Douglas and the late Virgina Whitt.
After graduating from Olympic High School, Gary went on to graduate from the Charlotte Police Academy and proudly served the city of Charlotte from 1981until 2009 when he retired from the freedom division.
Gary was loved by everyone who met him. His personality was larger than life and he loved to make everyone laugh.
He had many hobbies over the years including his passion of making music with his friends. He also loved fishing, bowling, hiking, archery, gardening and most recently Ham Radio.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Virgina Whitt and his beloved dog Ralphie.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Whitt; stepdaughters, Melissa Eberhart and Amy Celeste Armstrong; stepson, Robert E. Weaver; granddaughters, Brooke, Summer and Katelyn; father, Douglas Whitt and sister, Rhonda Greene and her husband Clark.
He is also survived by his niece, Kristen Murray; nephews, Kevin Rogers and Stephen Newsome; grand nephews, Wesley, Sawyer, Nolan and Ayden and grand nieces, Caroline, Hazel, Lydia and Hayden.
The family will receive friends at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley, NC on Saturday September 13, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
The family requests you to please come as you are and dress casually.
