

He was born and raised in East Harlem in New York and spent the summers as a child on City Island. Al served in the Army during WW2 and was captured at 19 years old in Saint Lo, France, and was held for 9 months as a prisoner of war. He was married to his wife Jennie for 63 years at the time of her passing in 2009. They raised 4 children, sons, John, Vincent, Albert Jr, and daughter Teresa on Staten Island in the Midland Beach neighborhood. Al also had 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, John Bruno and Mother, Constantina (Salino) Bruno and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He had an immense love for all animals but especially he enjoyed feeding the squirrels. He loved his grand-dog Tiger who he called "his best friend". He also loved watching the animal channel on tv and dreamt of holding a baby lion. As a young boy in East Harlem, Al belonged to the boys' club and enjoyed playing stickball in the streets and one time his basketball team was asked to play in Madison Square Garden. He loved the New York Yankees and was a Manager and Board member of the Staten Island Little League for over 40 years and got to Coach his sons John and Albie and grandson John Jr. He would cater for family and friends whenever they had a party or event. He never said no to anyone when it came to cooking for large crowds. As a younger man he was a waiter in Manhattan and had to privilege to serve many celebrities and famous people. He went on to own several restaurants one of which was Nunzio's Pizzeria on Hylan Blvd. For the last 20 years Al lived in the beautiful Hunter's Creek area of Orlando a few houses down from his daughter and grandchildren. When people asked him how he managed to live to 100 he would answer, "Fresh Air" I love to be out in the Fresh Air!
Visitation services will be held at Casey McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson Ave., Staten Island, NY, 10308. The first visitation will take place on April 21, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The Funeral Mass is scheduled for April 22, 2025, at 9:45 am at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, located at 110 Nelson Ave., Staten Island, NY, 10308.
The Committal Service will follow at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Rd, Staten Island, NY, 10306, on April 22, 2025, at 11:15 am.
